how to turn on a lost thc pen

How to Turn On a THC Vape Pen

If you’ve found or forgotten how to use a THC vape pen, the first thing to know is that not all pens turn on the same way. Most problems come down to the type of pen you have.

Step 1: Figure Out What Type of Pen It Is

1. Button-Activated Vape Pen

This is the most common type.

How to turn it on:

  • Press the power button 5 times quickly

  • A light usually flashes to confirm it’s on

To use it:

  • Press and hold the button while inhaling

To turn it off:

  • Press the button 5 times again

If nothing happens:

  • It may be dead

  • The button could be stuck

  • The battery could be faulty

2. Draw-Activated (No Button)

Some pens don’t have a button at all.

How to turn it on:

  • You don’t — it turns on automatically when you inhale

If it doesn’t work:

  • The battery may be dead

  • The airflow sensor may be clogged

  • The cartridge might not be connected properly

3. Disposable THC Pen

If it’s a disposable:

  • There is usually no power button

  • You just inhale

If it doesn’t work:

  • It may be empty

  • The battery may be dead

  • The device may be blocked or faulty

Disposables often stop working suddenly with no warning.

Step 2: Check the Battery

Common signs it needs charging:

  • No light when pressing the button

  • Blinking light when trying to use it

  • Weak or no vapour

What to do:

  • Charge it with the correct charger

  • Clean the charging port gently

  • Try a different cable if nothing happens

If it still won’t turn on after charging, the battery is likely dead.

Step 3: Check the Cartridge Connection

Sometimes the pen won’t turn on because:

  • The cartridge isn’t screwed in properly

  • The metal contacts are dirty

Try this:

  • Unscrew the cartridge

  • Wipe the contacts with a dry tissue or cotton bud

  • Screw it back on gently (don’t overtighten)

Step 4: Look for Safety Lock or Faults

Some pens won’t activate if:

  • They’ve overheated

  • They’re short-circuiting

  • The button is damaged

Signs of a faulty pen:

  • Random flashing

  • Heating without vapour

  • No response at all

If that’s the case, it’s usually not fixable.

If It Still Won’t Turn On

Realistically, one of these is true:

  • The battery is dead

  • The pen is disposable and empty

  • The internal electronics have failed

At that point, replacing the device is the only option.

Important UK Note

In the UK, THC is illegal unless prescribed, so possession of a THC vape may carry legal risk. This guide explains the device mechanics only.

Bottom Line

Most THC pens turn on with 5 quick button presses, or they activate when you inhale. If it won’t turn on after charging and cleaning, it’s probably dead or disposable.
